Me, My Muse and I: Adult Fall 2022 Student and Member Showcase
There are, it seems, two muses: The Muse of Inspiration, who gives us inarticulate visions and desires, and the Muse of Realization, who returns, again and again, to say, ‘It is yet more difficult than you thought.’ It may be that when we no longer know what to do, we have come to our real work and when we no longer know which way to go, we have begun our real journey.
The Johns Creek Arts Center (JCAC) would like to include your artwork in our Fall Student and Member Showcase. This biannual event is one of our favorite exhibitions as it celebrates the artwork created by our talented JCAC family. Without your support and patronage, we could not exist.
This year we have decided to do something a bit different. We want to know what inspires you to create. Could it be a song, a particular vacation spot, a beloved pet or favorite book? Please submit your artwork and a brief statement, photo, poem or any material that informs us about your particular muse. This collateral material will be displayed along with your work.
The dates for this exhibition are October 15th through November 11th.
Works will be exhibited at the Johns Creek Arts Center and may be viewed Monday through Friday from 1:30-4:30 and on Saturday from 10-2. The exhibition will also be available on the Johns Creek Arts Center website using the Wondergrid Gallery platform.
There will be a closing reception and awards ceremony for MUSE Friday November 11th from 6:00 until 7:30.
Instructions for Participation
This exhibition is open to all current JCAC adult students and members.
Each participant may enter up to two works. Student and member work will be judged separately. If you are a current adult student you should submit your work in the student category. Because of limited gallery space you may not enter works in both categories. However, if you are enrolled in more than one class you may submit two works from each class you are currently enrolled in.
Only original artwork will be considered. Submissions must not have been exhibited at the arts center within the last two years.
There are first, second, and third place awards in both Student and Member categories. There is also a People’s Choice Award determined by popular vote. Eligible media includes mixed media, ceramics, drawing, fiber, printmaking, painting, photography, and sculpture. Please contact the curator with questions as to whether a particular medium is acceptable.
Submissions may be no larger than 48 inches (framed or installed) in any direction. All 2-D work must be ready to hang with either a sawtooth or hanging wire. Work may not exceed a maximum weight of 25 lbs. for hanging artworks or 50 lbs. for sculpture. All works larger than 12×16 inches must be framed with plexiglass or acrylic rather than glass for safety reasons. Work should be submitted via email to firstname.lastname@example.org in a high quality .jpeg / .jpg or .png file. Image size should be high resolution, a minimum of 1000px in height and width, and a maximum of 2560 px in either direction. Collateral material should be submitted through email to email@example.com.
Submissions must include the artist’s name, email address, phone number, title of the work, medium, size, and price or designation that the work is not for sale. If the work is not for sale, please ascribe a value for insurance purposes.
Our gallery space is limited and we cannot guarantee that we will be able to exhibit all works submitted; however, all artists who submit works for consideration will have at least one work included in the show. The deadline for submission is 4pm September 30th. Artists will be notified of works selected for exhibition by October 5th.
Artists are responsible for transportation and delivery of work to and from the Johns Creek Arts Center during the designated drop off dates October 10th-12th 2022 from 10-4pm. All work must be professionally presented and delivered to the Center ready to hang.
The JCAC reserves the right to reproduce images of artwork for publicity purposes.

There will be 1st, 2nd,and 3rd place award ribbons and other recognitions associated with the exhibition. There are separate award categories for students and members.
Artists may use the exhibition as a venue for selling their work. work. If a work is sold during the exhibition, the artist retains 75% of the selling price. 25% will be retained by the JCAC. Artists may also exhibit their works with an “NFS” (not for sale) designation.
