Recommended brushes: Rounds (12, 10, 8), Flat Wash brush (one and a half inches), Neptune Brush (16). Neptune brushes can be a little more pricey, but they are excellent for washes and smooth gradients. It is not necessary to buy very expensive brushes, a few round brushes that spring back to a sharp point and can hold water are fine (plenty to choose from at Michaels and Hobby Lobby).
Palette: Buy a palette that can hold watered-down paint or ink. Plenty of inexpensive palettes available
Color Wheel: Very useful and important for thinking about color theory. Also inexpensive and can be purchased at Michaels or Hobby Lobby.
Sketchbook: This is optional but all artists should own a sketchbook for generating thumbnails and ideas.
Old toothbrush, palette knife and glass cleaner: These materials are mostly used for cleaning your palette.
Drawing Board: You will need a drawing board large enough to tape down your watercolor paper in order to keep it flat. An 18" x 24" board is a good size.
Blue Painter's Tape: This can be bought at Home Depot. It is used to keep your painting flat on the board. One roll will last a long time.
Acrylic Flow Release: (Optional) This is great if paint becomes too thick on the surface of your painting.
Cold Press Watercolor Paper: Size 12" x 16" or 9" x 12" either will work. I recommend Arches Watercolor Block Cold Press, available on Amazon.com
Golden Fluid Acrylics: These are high quality paints and are perfect for use on almost any type of surface. 1 fluid oz. bottles are perfectly acceptable. These can be found on Amazon.com, Michaels or Blick
