Come join our band of merry art lovers as we delve into the fasciniating world of Impressionism, the revolutionary nineteenth century art movement that marks the beginning of modern art as we know it today. Our journey will begin with an overview of the unique and rapidly changing cutural climate of the 19th century Europe which fostered a period intense creativity and innovation within the art world. As a group of innovative artists revolted against the staid and traditional practices of the art establishments and the rigid standard of the Academy, an exciting new movement, Impressionism, was born. We will examine its innovative techniques, learn about the fascinating lives of the painters and most importantly the paintings themselves. Each class will highlight the world of one individual Impressionist artist. The informal class format will include a visual presentation, interactive discussion and wine and cheese.
