This course will have guided step-by-step demonstrations of paint techniques with acrylics and acrylic mediums on canvas. Learn texturing, sponging, stippling, glazing, dry-brush, palette knife, dripping and other techniques, Students learn to prepare surfaces and build up the paint surface with layers. Select, blend and mix colors to make abstracts of imaginary landscapes and natural forms. Create abstract compositions by adding more depth with texture, value and detail.
This course is great for beginners and for those who want to learn new painting techniques.
The instructor will bring examples of all materials the first day of class. You
may want to wait to see all materials before purchasing them.
-Brushes: A package of assorted of soft nylon brushes from flats, rounds, oval or in
a range of sizes from small to large and one 1.5” or 2”soft, flat brush.
-Primed & stretched canvases or canvas boards. Suggested sizes: 9” x 12”, 11” x
14”, 12” x 16”. Bring one or two for each week.
-Palette: disposable paper palettes or foam picnic plates
-Palette knife: at least one flexible pointed chisel-shaped metal knife
-1 large carry-all for your wet paintings and a tool box for your supplies
-1 small jar of Light Molding or Modeling Paste (see example in class)
-1 small jar of Gloss Gel Medium (see example in class)
-1 small bottle each of Acrylic Matte Medium (see example in class)
- I container for water (like a yogurt container)
-1 roll of paper towels
- (option) disposable gloves
-Paint: the brand names of paints are all different from one another. Student grade
brands are fine for this course. Purchase 2 oz. tubes of paint. Here is a list of
Lemon Yellow or Light Yellow
Black- any black color is fine
