Use your own reference material or the instructor's photos for landscape, seascape, floral or portraits. Instructor is knowledgeable about a number of genres and techniques and the focus in this class is not on imitating the instructor's style but on developing your own style.
The emphasis will be on techniques for planning a composition prior to painting and looking at the use of colors in relation to one another. Think of the instructor as an art coach to help you reach your goals faster and as a resource to answer your questions, suggest alternatives and demonstrate a variety of techniques.
This is a good class for making the leap from drawing to painting. In addition to traditional soft pastel sticks the instructor teaches PanPastel, a relatively new form of pastel can be mixed like paint and used on its own or mixed with traditional soft pastel sticks. Much less dust is generated with Pan Pastel, which is a plus for those suffering from allergies.
Feel free to email the instructor with any questions regarding the class or materials.
